On Monday, Sgt. Adam Holcomb, an infantryman assigned to 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division from Fort Wainwright, Alaska, was found guilty by a court martial panel of two specifications of maltreatment and one specification of assault.

On Tuesday he was sentenced to reduction in rank to E-4, forfeiture of pay equaling $1,181.55 and 30 days confinement in connection with the death of Pvt. Danny Chen.

Holcomb’s trial started July 24, at the Fort Bragg courthouse. He was originally charged with negligent homicide, reckless endangerment, communicating a threat, assault, two specifications of maltreatment of a subordinate, dereliction of duty and four specifications of violating a lawful general regulation in connection with the death of Chen in Afghanistan Oct. 3, 2011.

Seven other Soldiers from 1st Bde., 25th Inf. Div. also face charges relating to Chen’s death and will be tried by courts-martial in the coming months.
