Fort Bragg’s 5k run was back on Saturday and runners, walkers and even some bikers came out to take part in the event.

Runners started and finished at Hedrick Stadium. Participant skill levels ranged from novice Families to advance runners using this run as a springboard for larger running events. More than 100 participants competed.

“Really, what you gain out of the run is the best,” said Vernon Johnson, a Fort Bragg Family member. “I’m trying to build up to the point where I can run a marathon. I’m training to compete with some friends in a Marathon in San Antonio.”

“It’s really great to get out here and run with everyone,” said Johnson. “I usually come out here with my Family and we all make this run.”

Families looking for physical activity together took full advantage of the day as well. Walkers, strollers and kids bikes were used to give every Family members the opportunity to compete.

Mother of two, Brenna Brook included her daughters as part of a stress reliever.

“I love the competition aspect, but really it’s the camaraderie of everyone getting together,” said Brooks. “The energy that we all give each other helps to push us runners. Plus I love being able to run with my girls.”

Even though the runs is only a 5k, it gives runners more than just a work out.

“It gets me through each day,” said Brooks. “It makes me feel alive. It is my antidepressant for sure.”

Runners had many supporters and sponsors cheering them on as they crossed the finish line.

“I feel very honored because we believe in health and fitness,” said Crystal Addink, a membership representative for the Spa,
Fitness and Wellness center. “I like watching all these people who want take the time to be out here and try to better themselves.”
