Armed Services YMCA partners with Huggies to deliver diapers to military Families
Huggies partnered with the Armed Services YMCA, a military non-profit organization that makes military life easier with free programs and services to servicemembers and their Families nationwide. By hosting Huggies Camo for a Cause, ASYMCA at Fort Bragg, received hundreds of boxes containing camo-styled diapers to give to junior enlisted military Families (E-5 and below), July 17, in Hangar 4 on Pope Field.
“I definitely appreciate this,” said one mom who graciously accepted six boxes of diapers for her two sons ages 18 months and 2 years. “We usually use cloth diapers to save money, but it will be nice not to have to wash diapers for a while.”
Each Family was given three boxes of diapers per child. Families of multiples were especially grateful for the donations.
“I actually heard about the camo diapers last year and bought a box for a friend’s baby shower. I thought it was awesome that Huggies was helping out military Families,” said Kaliope Bush, mother of 5-month old, girl triplets. “I never thought I would be one of those military Families they’d help out.”
According to Bush, her daughters, Sophia, Daphnie, and Anastasia, will probably go through the nine boxes of diapers she received in about two and a half weeks.
“We spend around $450 dollars a month on disposable diapers,” explained Bush. “I had to leave my job once the girls came to be able to take care of them. We mainly use cloth diapers, but sometimes there are instances when disposable diapers are just more convenient. (Diapers) are a pretty big cost for us, and we are just fortunate enough to be able to use this program.”
Bush’s husband is a specialist in the Army. She left her job working for the Internal Revenue Service and said that with the boxes she received, she was able to stock up on sizes that she didn’t have for the girls.
“This is really a great program and we are thankful for it,” said Bush.
A total donation of four million diapers nationwide were donated to military installations including Camp Lejeune, N.C., Camp Pendleton, 29 Palms, and San Diego, Cali., in addition to Fort Campbell, Ky. and Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
